(PHIVOLCS)

A 4.9-magnitude earthquake occurred in southwestern Mindanao at around 5:23 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the earthquake at 35 kilometers (km) southeast of Tabina, Zamboanga del Sur, and was shallow at a depth of 27 km.

It was felt as a “moderately strong” quake at Intensity IV in Tabina and Dimataling in Zamboanga del Sur.

Meanwhile, it was felt as a “slightly weak” tremor at Intensity II in Cotabato City.

Phivolcs’ instruments also recorded the quake at Intensity I in Zamboanga City, Kiamba in Sarangani, and T’boli in South Cotabato.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, it does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
