Seventy-six more persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City last Monday, June 27.
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said those freed from NBP’s maximum and minimum-security compounds had either been granted parole or had served their jail terms.
In June this year alone, the NBP had released a total of 171 PDLs, BuCor said. NBP had freed a total of 1,147 PDLs from January 1 to June 27, 2022, it said.
BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag has a standing order on the immediate release of qualified PDLs to decongest its seven prison facilities in the country.
