The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in collaboration with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Social Work Consortium-Philippines, spearheaded the celebration of the Filipino Social Workers’ Day on June 19, in recognition of the contributions and efforts of social workers in implementing the Philippine government’s social welfare and development programs and services.
With the theme “Resilient Filipino Social Workers: Moving Toward the New Socio-Economic, Political, Cultural and Environmental Challenges,” the celebration highlighted the unwavering commitment, dedication, and altruism of Filipino Social Workers and their significant role in the reduction of various socioeconomic vulnerabilities of individuals, families, and communities in the country.
In his keynote address, DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista lauded the Filipino social workers who committed their lives to the betterment of the poor and vulnerable sectors of society.
“This type of work requires genuine dedication and compassion for those who are needy. As such, I express my warmest gratitude to all Filipino social workers who committed their lives to the betterment of Philippine society ensuring that no one is left behind,” Bautista said.
DSWD also acknowledged the valuable contributions of the partners from the ASEAN Social Work Consortium-Philippines.
“Working together with our various social work associations here and abroad has provided valuable opportunities to strengthen mechanisms and cooperation for a more effective and participatory delivery of services, hence achieving the common goals to uphold and continue improving the standards of social work practice and education across the country,” Bautista said.
