Duterte as Go's legal adviser? Not surprising, says Andanar

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said Tuesday he would not be surprised if President Duterte will become Senator Bong Go's legal adviser once the outgoing leader steps out of the office.

While he has not yet received any official statement from the President about accepting Go's offer to become his consultant, Andanar believed Duterte could be amenable to work with the lawmaker.

"I wouldn't be surprised if the President will be there to advise Sen. Bong Go since they are very close to each other," Andanar told reporters in an ambush interview.

In fact, Andanar added, Duterte has been Go's mentor.

On Sunday, June 19, the lawmaker said he offered Duterte to become his legal consultant, to which the latter replied yes.

"Sabi ko, Mr. President, puwede ba kitang kunin na legal consultant. Pumayag naman siya (I asked Mr. President if he can be my legal consultant. He said yes), but after his term as president of our country," Go said in an interview during the inauguration of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Go said he was first hesitant to ask Duterte given the higher positions in the government he had been through.

But the lawmaker clarified that the President had not yet formally accepted the offer since he is still considering other options after his term ended.
