The Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan has released 15 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) for good behavior.
In a statement, IPPF said that the freed PDLs were able to avail themselves of credits through good conduct time allowance (GCTA) under Republic Act No. 10592, the GCTA law.
GCTA credits shorten the jail term of a PDL.
Acting IPPF Superintendent CSupt. Joel R. Calvelo said more PDLs are expected to be released based on GCTA credits.
Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Geraldo Q. Bantag has a standing directive to all heads of the bureau’s prison facilities nationwide to expedite the release of qualified PDLs to decongest jails.
Calvelo said that a culminating program had been conducted for the 15 released PDLs.
Only 99 PDLs were released from IPPF in 2021. They were among the 4,610 PDLs freed by BuCor last year.
