The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was recognized by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) for its invaluable role as a peace partner during the Peace Partners’ Recognition Day on May 16.

The DSWD was conferred with the award under the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) Implementing Department/Joint Normalization Committee Secretariat category.

Along with other individuals, organizations, and institutions, DSWD was given recognition for going an extra mile in pushing for the Comprehensive Philippine Peace Process under the President Duterte’s administration.

As the lead agency in social protection, DSWD assured the provision of social welfare and development programs and services to the former rebels and former violent extremists and their families, decommissioned combatants, and other insurgency groups.

This is done through its various peace-building initiatives geared towards providing an improved level of well-being to the said individuals and groups as they reintegrate into society.

The DSWD was among the 38 peace partners recognized by OPAPRU, composed of line government agencies, local chief executives, peacebuilders, and advocates.
