Palace says Marcos, Duterte's proclamation 'marks another historic milestone'

Malacañang on Wednesday night congratulated President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio following their proclamation in the Congress sitting as the National Board of Canvassers for the 2022 elections.

In a statement, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said "today's proclamation ceremony by Congress marks another historic milestone in our political life as a nation."

He said the event underscored "that we are, indeed, a showcase and beacon of democracy in this part of the world."

As Marcos Jr. and Duterte-Carpio are set to embark on their new responsibilities and challenges in their respective offices, Andanar said the Palace is calling on the people "to stand behind our newly elected leaders."

Marcos Jr. is the son of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. while Duterte-Carpio is the daughter of outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte.

"The Office of the President shall ensure a peaceful, orderly and smooth transfer of powers to the President-elect as we extend all the necessary support and assistance to various transition activities," Andanar said.

"Mabuhay ang Pilipinas. Mabuhay ang mga Pilipino (Long live Philippines. Long live, Filipinos)," he added.
