House receives COCs, ERs ahead of Tuesday joint session

The House of Representatives has received around 150 Certificates of Canvass (COCs) and Election Returns (ERs) from the Senate in preparation for Tuesday, May 23 when the two legislative chambers will form the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC).

Congress–composed of the House and the Senate–will begin the canvassing of votes cast for president and vice president last May 9 during the joint session.

House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco and Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III will preside over the canvassing.

It’s possible that by May 27, the canvassing will have been completed, thus allowing Congress to proclaim the presidential and vice presidential race winners.

Velasco previously assured the people that the canvassing of votes and proclamation of candidates would be “expeditious, transparent, and credible".

The House of Representatives, on May 19, formed its contingent to the NBOC. This NBOC contingent is expected to be elected on the floor during Monday afternoon's House session.

Meanwhile, the Senate approved a resolution calling for a joint session between the House and the Senate at 10 a.m. on May 24 to begin the canvassing.
