The San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF) in Zamboanga City has released 127 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from January 1 to May 21, 2022.
In a statement, SRPPF said that of those released, 88 PDLs had served their jail terms, nine paroled, five given probation, 10 acquitted of criminal charges, and five returnees (those who had been released but ordered detained anew pending review of their credits under the good conduct time allowance or GCTA).
The GCTA law shortens jail term for good behavior while in detention.
“Through the leadership of Gerald Q. Bantag, director general and the Bureau of Corrections, and full support of C/Supt. Jhaeron L. Lacaben of SRPPF, the facility in Zamboanga City aims to release more qualified PDLs to be with the community once again,” the SRPPF said.
It said that in 2021, SRPPF released 428 qualified PDLs. Those released included 348 whose jail terms had expired, 32 who had been paroled, seven who had been granted probation, 15 who had been acquitted of their cases in courts, and five returnees.
