PHLPost digitalization to boost PH economic activities — Duterte

President Duterte on Thursday night said the latest digital innovations in the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) will "surely boost" the country’s global competitiveness as well as "stimulate" the Philippine economic activities during the period of recovery and digital transition amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Duterte made the pronouncement as he attended the launching of the Digital Innovation and Modernization of PHLPost in Manila, where he was briefed about the shift to online presence and the digitalization of the government-run postal service.

“The modernization efforts of the postal agency are indeed timely and relevant as it facilitates the efficient delivery of communications, payment of services as well as goods and merchandise, especially now that businesses and industries shift their operation to a more modern method such as e-commerce and online transactions,” he said.

But he also said that the move will bring back the agency’s integrity, considering the many complaints of Filipinos before regarding their opened or missing parcels.

The President said the pandemic opened “avenues for innovative product and systems that cater to the needs of the consumers in the new normal where data and technology drive the market.”

He said with the success of the agency’s initiative, he commended PHLPost “for ensuring responsive and people-centered governance,” which places the Filipinos at the hearts of their operations towards building a high trust society.”

But he urged the agency to remain united and steadfast in its commitment to the Filipinos as well as “constantly explore innovations” that will further streamline the government’s services, even under other leaderships.
