Former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos is the second person to join the incoming Cabinet of presumptive president Bongbong Marcos.
According to Marcos spokesperson and chief-of-staff, lawyer Vic Rodriguez, Abalos has been offered the position of Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary. He accepted the offer.
“I would also like to announce that chairman Benhur Abalos has been nominated to lead the [DILG] and he has accepted the challenge,” Rodriguez said in a press conference Friday, May 13 at the BBM headquarters in Mandaluyong City.
Abalos is also a former Mandaluyong City mayor. He left his post as MMDA chairman earlier this year in order to serve as Marcos’s campaign manager.
Rodriguez said Abalos is also a member of the transition team formed by Marcos in preparation for his take over as chief executive.
“The campaign executive committee will serve as the transition team and for the names of the transition team, it is to be led by yours truly,” Rodriguez said.
“And I have with me, Congressman Anton Lagdameo, Chairman Benhur Abalos, former Congresswoman Naida Angping, and South Cotabato Governor Jun Tamayo,” he added.
“These are the names that I am at liberty to reveal at the moment, but this is the composition of our transition team,” Rodriguez further said.
The other Marcos Cabinet that has been revealed so far is presumptive vice president Sara Duterte, who accepted the offer to become Department of Education (DepEd) secretary.
