Comelec hopes to proclaim winning senators this week

Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo (ALI VICOY / MANILA BULLETIN)

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) hopes to proclaim within the week the winning senatorial candidates for this year’s polls.

“Hopefully this week kung kakayanin magpo-proclaim na tayo (if we can do it we will make the proclamations),” said Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo during a press briefing.

The commissioner explained that the national board of canvassers (NBOC) is awaiting the transmission of the results from the provincial board of canvassers (PBOC) and city board of canvassers (CBOC).

He noted that the certificates of canvass submitted by the PBOCs is already at 15 percent, while those from the CBOCs is already at 69 percent.

Amid the partial and unofficial rankings of senatorial candidates already made public, Casquejo admitted nothing will change once the national board of canvassers (NBOC) start canvassing the certificates of canvass.

“Since it is based on the transmission, wala naman nagbago resulta doon kapag nai-transmit doon sa canvassing center (nothing will change in the results once the results are transmitted to the canvassing center). Talagang 100 percent accurate yan (It is 100 percent accurate),” he assured.
