Robredo's lawyer dismisses Marcos' camp claims on 'Solid North' voting as 'propaganda'

The camp of presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. must not underestimate his voters' capacity to think as it continues to believe that some of the votes of his supposed supporters are going instead to his rival, Vice President Leni Robredo.

Lawyer Romulo Macalintal, poll counsel for Robredo, made the pronouncement in a press conference on Monday after Marcos Jr.'s camp claimed that there were reports that some Marcos' votes were being credited to Robredo in parts of Northern Luzon, including Ilocos Sur and Kalinga.

He dismissed such a claim as "propaganda."

Who knew, maybe the votes were actually for Robredo, Macalintal added.

"He should respect the personal choice of the voter. He should never question the intelligence and the competence of the voter," he said.

"Kung ikaw mismo pagduduhan mo yung botante mo, hindi naman siguro maganda 'yun (If you yourself doubt your voters, it's not good)," he added.

Macalintal also said Marcos Jr. should not make himself believe that people in his bailiwick region are all voting for him.

"'Yung mga kababaayan mismo ni Mr. Marcos ang nagsasabing 'Awan Ti Solid North (Even his own Ilocanos say: there's no solid north)," he said, implying he must accept votes that are not in his favor.

Macalintal believed there is still no irregularity in the conduct of elections as of his presser at 3 p.m. unless they have already received an evidence to prove otherwise.

He also said it is impossible for the vote counting machines (VCMs) to be programmed to give votes for Robredo.
