'Someone from DepEd wants 40 percent cut' in projects — Pacquiao

Presidential aspirant Senator Manny Pacquiao on Friday alleged that someone from the Department of Education (DepEd) will not agree with any project unless he or she will get a 40 percent cut.

"Dyan sa DepEd, may kakilala pa ako dyan, 'di pumapayag na bumaba ng 40 percent ang mapunta sa kanya (I know someone from DepEd who doesn't agree if he or she doesn't take home 40 percent of the budget)," Pacquiao said during the Commission on Elections-Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (Comelec-KBP) panel interview.

Pacquiao said he does not want to name names yet, but he said he "knows what's happening" in the agency.

He said he will go after the corrupt officials if he gets elected.

The lawmaker also did not agree with the proposal of declaring an educational crisis.

He believed that the budget that DepEd gets yearly is sufficient, even "one of the largest," to provide gadgets and equipment not only to students but also to teachers.

"Kailangan talaga imanage ng husto 'yang DepEd (DepEd has to be managed well)," he said.

"Ang baguhin at i-korek iyong nasa loob, yung mga nagpapatakbo... May kababalaghan na nangyayari dyan sa loob (And those who run it need to be changed and corrected. I know there are shenanigans inside)," he added.
