"We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of former Marinduque Rep. Gina Reyes-Mandanas," Velasco said in a statement Thursday afternoon, May 5.

Reyes-Mandanas, who Velasco lovingly referred to as "Ate Gina", is the wife of Batangas Governor Hermilando "Dodo" Mandanas.

"Ate Gina was loved by the people of Marinduque and Batangas for her wit, wisdom, and style. Her years of service to her home province of Marinduque both as provincial administrator and as representative, and as the First Lady of Batangas, has truly endeared her to the people, and her legacy of service will never be forgotten," the Speaker said.

"We send our deepest condolences to Batangas Governor Dodo Mandanas and to the Reyes family. Ate Gina will always be remembered as a friend and beloved daughter of Marinduque," he added.

Velasco is the current Marinduque lone district representative.
