Pacquiao says probe on missing sabungeros must continue despite Duterte’s order

Presidential aspirant Senator Manny Pacquiao said Tuesday, May 3, the government must continue its probe on the disappearances of missing sabungeros or cockfight enthusiasts even if President Duterte already ordered to stop its operations.

“Prerogative of the executive (department) to issue an EO (executive order) na ipahinto iyong e-sabong. Karapatan niya iyon kasi trabaho niya iyon, respetuhin na lang muna natin (It’s the prerogative of the executive department to issue an EO halting e-sabong. It’s his right because it’s his job. Let’s respect it),” Pacquiao said, in response to Duterte’s decision.

A lawmaker, Pacquiao said there must be a resolution to the mystery behind the disappearances of several sabungeros, whose case is still being investigated in the Senate.

He added that perpetrators must be punished.

“Hindi pwedeng ipa-stop iyong investigation kasi may nawawala. Importante ituloy iyong investigation at malaman natin kung saan iyong mga tao (The investigation cannot be stopped because there are people missing. It’s important to be continued so we’ll know where are they),” he said.
