Honda is back with the All-New HR-V

My first encounter with the Honda HR-V was in the early 2000s, during its first iteration. During those years, the Honda CR-V was one of the most popular compact SUVs on the market. Two decades later, I am now face to face with the All-New HR-V and had first dibs on it during its Philippine debut on April 19, 2022, in Taguig City.

The All-New HR-V is all about safety and it features the latest Honda SENSING system technology equipped with state-of-the-art wide camera and high-speed image processing chip and continuing with vision that is wider and detects a situation much faster.  Like the 11th generation Civic, the All-New Honda HR-V features the new Honda SENSING system which uses a camera with a wider field of view combined with improved software. The updated safety tech achieves better vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, pedestrian, and road marking recognition.

This gives the driver a practical and very high driving assistance with safety features such as Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDMS with LDW), Lead Car Departure Notification System (LCDNS), Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow (ACC with LSF), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and Auto High Beam (AHB).

In pursuit of Honda's global goal of zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050, the All-New HR-V comes standard with Honda SENSING, placing it among HCPI's Honda SENSING line of vehicles. This provides comprehensive protection for drivers and passengers by issuing warnings and automatically taking actions to reduce the likelihood of an accident occurring.

The Philippine-spec All-New Honda HR-V will have two engine options. Namely, a 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC engine for the base S CVT Honda SENSING, producing 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque. While the V Turbo CVT Honda SENSING variant, on the other hand, features a 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo engine, making it the first-ever turbo-powered HR-V. The said engine puts out a mighty 177 PS and 240 Nm of torque. Both mills are then paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) for an efficient and refined driving experience.

Looking at its exterior, the All-New Honda HR-V has an aggressive appearance that is accented with premium and sporty details on the outside. The subcompact crossover's newly shaped headlights and foglamps feature standard LEDs with turn light signals, an auto on/off function, and Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), providing the driver with enhanced visibility on the road. The All-New HR-V V Turbo CVT Honda SENSING has a mesh type grille, whereas the base S CVT Honda SENSING has a black bar type grille. The sport type bumper with the Amp Up Line design on the top-of-the-line V Turbo CVT Honda SENSING is a notable design cue that adds character to the vehicle.

Going over the side, Honda's latest crossover has a sharp body line as well as a coupe-like profile thanks to its sloping roofline and rear door handles that are well-integrated into the C-pillar. Both variants include a shark fin antenna and 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/60 tires; the difference between the two rims is that the top-tier V Turbo CVT Honda SENSING has a gray finish, whereas the base S CVT Honda SENSING has a black and silver color scheme. Finally, the side is finished with a generous amount of black cladding for added sportiness.

The All-New Honda HR-V made its Philippine debut, bringing with it exciting upgrades that will undoubtedly "Heighten your Senses." Overall, it reflects the identity of a subcompact crossover given its sleek, premium, and sporty design, fun-to-drive performance, and generous space, which translates to a comfortable and dynamic lifestyle.

The notable upgrades represent the beginning of a new chapter for Honda’s subcompact crossover, this is all thanks to its sophisticated styling, premium quality, advanced safety, and intuitive technology that would be versatile for different lifestyles.
