Biazon tops mayoral survey anew in Muntinlupa

Muntinlupa mayoral candidate Ruffy Biazon again topped an election survey for the May 9 local elections.

Polling firm Publicus released the results of the “Pahayag NCR Tracker” for April for mayoral and vice mayoral races in Metro Manila.

The independent survey was conducted from April 8 to 13 among a sample of 1,625 registered voters in Metro Manila.

A total of 100 respondents were asked in Muntinlupa and 14 other cities, while 49 respondents were asked in Pateros, the smallest local government unit in the NCR, and 76 in San Juan. The sample was provided by PureSpectrum, a US-based panel marketplace.

The sample-wide margin of error is +/- 3%. The city-level margin of error for most cities is +/- 10 percent, +/- 12 percent in San Juan, and +/- 14 percent in Pateros.

“Samples provided by PureSpectrum are not affiliated with any bias or political party. All opinions voiced in the interpretation and analyses of the data are those of the writer and/or project sponsor,” said PureSpectrum.

For the mayoral race in Muntinlupa, Biazon of One Muntinlupa party, topped the survey with 49 percent, the same percentage he got in Publicus’ March 16 to 21 survey. He got 55 percent in the first survey conducted from Feb. 18 to 24.

Placing second are independent candidate Nelson Benjamin and People’s Reform Party (PRP) bet Red Mariñas with 11 percent each followed by independent candidate Oscar Marmeto with five percent. The undecided voters totaled 23 percent.

In the March survey, Benjamin got 12 percent while Mariñas had 11 percent, compared to 16 percent for Mariñas and five percent for Benjamin in the February survey.

For vice mayor, Oyo Boy Dioko of PRP has overtaken incumbent Vice Mayor Artemio Simundac, who is the running mate of Biazon.

In the latest survey, Dioko got 39 percent to place first followed by Simundac with 30 percent while undecided voters totaled 29 percent and those who answered “none” totaled two percent.

But with the survey’s margin of error of +/- 10 percent, Dioko and Simundac are statistically tied. Publicus explained that in races with a margin of 20 points or less, “candidates statistically tied for first place.”

In the March 16 to 21 survey, Simundac got 37 percent to place first while Dioko had 33 percent, or a margin of four percentage points, with undecided at 28 percent.

In the Feb. 18 to 24 survey, Simundac got 39 percent while Dioko received 29 percent, or a difference of 10 percentage points. Undecided voters totaled 30 percent.
