Twenty-seven more persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City this month of April, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.

In a statement, BuCor said that those freed “were given their transportation allowances and gratuity, and were briefed of the protocols needed to be followed outside the prison compound.”

Of those released, 22 were from the NBP’s maximum-security compound. They were all acquitted of their criminal charges.

Four PDLs were from the medium-security compound, while the other one was from the reception and diagnostic center who was granted probation.

Last March 30, eight PDLs were released from NBP’s minimum-security compound. Some of them had completed their jail terms while others had been granted parole.

BuCor said it has been expediting the release of qualified PDLs to decongest jails in its seven prison facilities nationwide.

In 2021, a total of 4,610 qualified PDLs was freed.
