The New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City has released eight more persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.

“Eigth (8) Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) have been released upon expiration of maximum sentence and granted parole from the New BIlibid Prison’s Minimum-Security Compound (NBP-MinSeCom) last March 30, 2022,” BuCor said.

Last March 29, BuCor had also announced the release of 19 PDLs from its MinSeCom and Medium-Security Compound (MiDSeCom).

In 2021, a total of 4,610 PDLs were released from BuCor’s seven prison facilities nationwide.

Those released in 2021 included 2,378 PDLs who had served their jail terms; 1,193 who had been acquitted of their criminal cases; five who had been granted conditional pardon; 598 who qualified for parole; 43 who had been granted probation, eight who had been allowed to post bail bonds; and 385 returnees – those who had earlier been freed under the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) law but ordered to return to jail for further evaluation of their good conduct credits.

The GCTA law shortens jail terms based on good conduct exhibited by PDLs during their detention.
