DOJ sets up 5th regional action center

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is set to open on March 24 its regional action center (DOJAC) in Nueva Ecija to provide free legal assistance to the poor and underprivileged residents of Region III.

DOJAC’s office in Region III will be located at the New Capitol Compound in Palayan City. Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra and Nueva Ecija Gov. Aurelio M. Umali will attend the inauguration.

Also expected to attend the inauguration are DOJ Undersecretary Juliana G. Sunga, Assistant Secretary Margaret V. Castillo-Padilla, and Nueva Ecija Provincial Prosecutor Bener O. Bauto.

In a statement, the DOJ said: “The people of Region III -- composed of the provinces of Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales -- especially those belonging to the marginalized sector, will soon have access to free legal assistance from the Department of Justice (DOJ).”

“The DOJ in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Nueva Ecija is set to establish the DOJ Action Center Region III (DOJAC-R III) on 24 March 2022,” it said.

DOJAC-R III will be the fifth DOJAC regional office opened by the DOJ. The other DOJAC offices are in Region X in Cagayan de Oro City, Region XI in Davao City, Region VII in Cebu City, Region I in San Fernando City, La Union.

The DOJAC, which was established on Feb. 28, 1985, is a frontline service of the DOJ that provides legal advice, referral and mediation services to the public.

In 2021, DOJAC offices served a total of 16,105 clients.

The DOJ said its DOJAC offices also receive complaints against corruption.
