Quezon town mayor shot, wounded in mid-day ambush

QUEZON – Infanta Mayor Filipina Grace America was wounded in an ambush staged by a motorcycle-riding gunman at the town’s Barangay Poblacion 1 Sunday morning, Feb. 27, 2022.

An initial report from the Quezon Provincial Police Office showed that American had just come from church when she was ambushed.

The report said the mayor was onboard her SUV, which was being driven by a certain Alvin America, on Rizal Street, Poblacion 1, Infanta, at about 11:15 a.m. when she was ambushed.

It added a lone gunman, onboard a motorcycle, fired shots at the right side of the vehicle, bullets piercing through the front passenger-side window.

The lady mayor was rushed to the Claro M. Recto Hospital, according to P/Master Sgt. Ireneo Luza.

Police recovered two bullet slugs and six spent shells at the scene of the ambush.
