Rich Pinoys to cough up 20 percent wealth tax under a Ka Leody presidency

Presidential aspirant Leody "Ka Leody" de Guzman will impose hefty tax on the country's wealthiest individuals if elected in the position in a bid to resolve inequality and help the people.

During Kapisanan ng Broadkaster ng Pilipinas' presidential forum on Friday, de Guzman said he will impose through legislation a 20 percent tax on the country's top 500 richest people.

"Pero kung di papasa ng Congress, ang gagawin natin, people's initiative na pamamaraan para maaprubahan ang batas na 'yan para mag-impose ng wealth tax (If a measure will not be passed in the Congress, we will do a people's initiative to create a law, so we can impose a wealth tax)," de Guzman said.

The fund that will be generated from it will be used to help farmers, generate more jobs and strengthen the country's health care system, he added.

De Guzman also said he will defer the payment of the country's debt until the next five years so the government can save up money for its needs.

Aside from wealth tax, the presidential aspirant said he will run after the money that was allegedly stolen by the Marcos family as well as money that is being stolen in the Congress.
