In a video circulating online and uploaded via Eumir Marcial's Youtube channel, Ancajas knocked out his unnamed sparring partner and sent him to the corner which ensued in an unexpected ending.
The coach of the opposing corner threw a water bottle to the Filipino champion as Ancajas was caught off guard following the knockdown.
Through coach Joven Jimenez's Youtube channel, the 30-year-old Ancajas explained his side and said there was a go-signal from his corner to continue the sparring and his sparring mate also insisted to resume the match.
Ancajas was also seen backing off for a moment after cornering his opponent before landing the lethal left hand.
"Ang ginawa ko pinasok ko, mahina naman yung mga suntok ko basta makasira lang sa diskarte nyia kasi kasi magaling siya magpuntos. Yun lang yung mali ko nung natamaan ko siya sa tiyan, doon na nagsimula. Tapos yung huminto, yung nakita niyong huminto, kung baga naramdaman ko na nasaktan ko siya sa katawan kaya huminto ako (I went in closely and made sure that my punches are weak, just enough to distract him 'cos he's great at scoring. Maybe I was wrong on the part that I hit his stomach, that's where it began. I stopped for a moment since I felt that I hurt him, tha's why I stopped punching."
Boxing fans, especially the Filipino community, were also quick to defend Ancajas and said that the long-time IBF champion has nothing to apologize for.
Ancajas said both camps have made amends and also apologized both to his sparring mate and the coach for the inconvenience.
Prior to that though, Ancajas said he was quick to apologize but the coach went on with some foul words which did not sit well for the Panabo, Davao del Norte pugilist.
"Magso-sorry ako. Parang minumura mura tayo. Doon na rin ako na huwag mong gawin yan. Kasi boxing 'to e. Pero pinapakita ko na kahit ganoon, 'wag tayo bully-bully-hin (I was about to say sorry but he spit some bad words. I told the coach not to do that 'cos this is boxing. I just showed that in those circumstance, we shouldn't be bullied)," he added.
Ancajas also extended his gratitude to the mother of his sparring mate, who quickly understood the situation his son was in.
"'Yong nanay pa talaga 'yong nagsabi na boxing 'to e. Lumapit 'yong nanay sa amin at nagpapasalamat na parang naging lesson din ng boxer. At binigyan ko rin 'yong boxer ng mga na talagang magaling siyang boksingero at 'wag siyang mawalan ng pag-asa dahil sa nangyari (I'm grateful to my sparringmate's mother. She was the first one to said and admitted that it happens in boxing. The mother talked to us and thanked us for giving his son a lesson. I also talked to my sparring mate and gave him words of encouragement. I told him that he's a great boxer and that he should not lose hope)."
Ancajas is almost on his final stage of training as he prepares to defend his title for the 10th straight time against Argentine foe Fernando Martinez on Feb. 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
