Twelve persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have been released from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said those released in nine days ending last Jan. 12 had either served their jail terms, acquitted of their criminal charges or granted parole.

“Said women underwent rapid antigen testing as strict adherence to the COIVD-19 protocols, and they were also given gratuities for their travel expenses,” BuCor said.

BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag has assured that the bureau “will continue to carry out its decongestion program despite the pandemic's challenges.”

Prior to their release, BuCor said the 12 PDLs “underwent a culminating activity with high aspirations of building a new life with all the dexterous learnings and upright moral rectitude.”

“Their circumstances and preferences due to their incarceration do not define them. They are prepared to re-enter the free community as productive citizens,” it said.

BuCor’s seven prison facilities nationwide released a total of 4,610 PDLs in 2021.
