Metro Manila experiences coldest morning yet this 2022

Monday morning, Jan. 17, turned extra cold and breezy for Metro Manila residents as air temperature dropped to 19.5 degrees Celsius (°C)--the coldest yet since the northeast monsoon or "amihan" season began.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the 19.5°C air temperature was specifically recorded at the Science Garden monitoring station in Quezon City.

Based on the PAGASA's monitoring, the lowest air temperatures recorded on Jan. 17 are as follows:

Baguio City -- 11.7°C

Tanay, Rizal -- 18.0°C

Casiguran, Aurora -- 18.8°C

Malaybalay, Bukidnon -- 19.0°C

Ambulong, Batangas -- 19.5°C

Clark, Pampanga -- 19.5°C

San Jose, Occidental Mindoro -- 19.5°C

Science Gaden, Quezon City -- 19.5°C

Abucay, Bataan -- 19.6°C

Laoag City, Ilocos Norte -- 19.7°C

As of Monday, PAGASA said the shear line and northeast monsoon were still the dominant weather systems.

PAGASA advised those in Mindanao to take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains brought about by the shear line.

Meanwhile, cloudy skies with light rains may prevail over Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon, while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains may persist in Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to the amihan.

The chilly weather is expected to last until February as the amihan continues to prevail over the country.
