It was another record-breaking day for the Philippines in terms of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections.
Thursday set the new highest single-day tally for fresh COVID-19 cases at 34,021, beating the previous record of 33,169 that was set only last Monday, Jan. 10.
The country--which is in the thick of this new Omicron variant-fueled surge--has consistently posted new infections in the five digits this past week. If it's any consolation, a significant number of recoveries--4,694--was also recorded Thursday.
Despite this, OCTA Research recognized that the Omicron outbreak in the National Capital Region (NCR) remains "severe", particularly with the region's daily attack rate (ADAR) of 111.80.
The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) conducted a meeting to discuss the alertl level classification of the different areas in the Philippines for the period of Jan. 16 to 31, 2022.
