The northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," will continue to bring cold and cloudy weather in northern Luzon in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Jan. 10.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated light rains are expected over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
PAGASA warned the public that the occurrence of severe thunderstorms may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.
Weather specialist Grace Castañeda said PAGASA has not monitored a low pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility as of Monday.
Moreover, no gale warning is in effect over the country's seaboards.
Moderate to rough seas may prevail over northern and western Luzon, while slight to moderate seas may persist over the rest of the country.
As such, sea travel is safe even for fisherfolk and others with small sea vessels, PAGASA said.
