The northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” will bring isolated light rains over most of northern Luzon in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Jan. 9.

Isolated light rains are expected over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.

PAGASA warned the public that the occurrence of severe thunderstorms may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.

Moreover, moderate to strong winds associated with the northeast monsoon may trigger moderate to rough seas in the northern seaboard of northern Luzon.

PAGASA advised mariners, especially those using small sea crafts, to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions.
