Thirty-eight more persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have been released from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City as of Dec. 31, 2021.

In a statement, BuCor said those released from NBP’s medium security camp had been granted parole.

Last Oct. 9, 40 PDLS from NBP were released. Twenty-nine of them from NBP’s maximum security compound had been acquitted of their criminal charges while 11 had completed their jail terms.

BuCor said that the PDLs were released immediately “due to the quick response of our personnel, particularly those who were working double shifts in the assessment and evaluation of PDL's documents.”

Those released were granted transportation allowance for traveling to their respective home towns, certificates of recommendation, and proofs that they tested negative for COVID-19 virus,” it said.

“Sometimes, all we need in life is a second chance to meditate and direct our mistakes, because we are all just humans who make mistakes, but we all deserve to become better people if we are determined to change,” it told the freed PDLs.
