Joint exercises boost military’s capabilities in the Visayas


ILOILO CITY — The concluded joint military exercises of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is meant to boost the military’s capabilities in the Visayas.

“It is to enhance our combat proficiency and preparedness necessary during joint operations and other military actions,” said Major General Benedict Arevalo, commander of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID).

The 3ID hosted the joint inter-operability exercises that ended November 17 at Camp Peralta in Jamindan town, Capiz province and in Patnongon town, Antique province.

Aside from the Philippine Army 3ID, there were also Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force and AFP reservists who participated in the combined live fire exercise (CALFEX), urban operations, and amphibious operations.

The participants had urban operations including signal operation training, field artillery operations training, inspection of equipment readiness and rehearsals and evaluator’s refreshers training, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) lecture, military operation on urban terrain and close quarter battle simulation, and live firing of a howitzer ammunition.
