More NBI satellite clearance centers soon

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has assured the opening of more satellite centers where the public can secure clearances.

“We have more than 300 already including our regional and district offices to cater to the needs of our clearance applicants,” NBI Deputy Director for Forensic Investigation Services Ferdinand M. Lavin said during the Laging Handa briefing on Tuesday, Nov. 9.

“Ito ay aggressively increasing (This is aggressively increasing),” Lavin, also the NBI spokesperson, said.

Lavin explained that NBI Officer-in-Charge Director Eric B. Distor wanted “ang NBI ay malapit sa tao lalo na itong clearance applications (the NBI to be closer to the public especially concerning clearance applications).”

An NBI clearance is a certificate issued by the agency to a person which shows that the individual has no derogatory or pending criminal record.

He said the NBI is now issuing a multi-purpose clearance instead of separate clearances for travel, employment and permit to carry firearms.

He also said the public can also renew clearances online with their choice of couriers.

“Ngunit kung ito ay first time clearance application, kailangan pumunta sa pinakamalapit na NBI clearance center (First time clearance applicants will have to go to the nearest NBI clearance center),” he advised.
