Palace incentives await Yulo...but how much?

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque has assured financial incentives to Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo for his impressive double-medal finish at the just-concluded 50th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Japan.

"Siyempre mayroon ‘no (Of course)," Roque said in a virtual press conference Friday, Oct. 29 when asked if the gymnastics superstar can expect incentives from the government for the latter's latest conquest.

"Ang alam ko iyong manggagaling sa ating Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) ‘ata iyon ‘no, eh mayroon na siyang assured na P750,000 (What I know is he has an assured P750,000 from the PSC)," he said.

"Pero pagpupulungan pa po sa Office of the Executive Secretary kung magkano talaga ang karagdagang incentive na ibibigay ng Presidente dahil kung matatandaan ninyo, iyong mga nagwawagi naman sa mga international events na ganiyan, mayroon pa pong karagdagang pabuya na binibigay ang Office of the President (But the Office of the Executive Secretary will be discussing just how much additional incentive the President will give because, as you can recall, those who win international events like that are entitled to additional rewards from the Office of the President)," Roque noted.

The 21-year-old Yulo took home the gold medal in the men’s vault and the silver medal in the parallel bars from the world championships.

Roque earlier said that Yulo's recent victory attests to the skill of Filipino athletes.
