Ed Sheeran tests COVID-19 positive, self-isolates

It’s safety above all else for Ed Sheeran.

The hit singer-songwriter announced last Sunday that he had tested positive for Covid-19. The singer immediately cancelled all activities to do with live performances and guestings in relation to the promotion of his upcoming album.

Said record, titled “=” (Equals) is set for an October 29th release.

On Instagram, Sheeran posted, “Hey guys. Quick note to tell you that I’ve sadly tested positive for Covid, so I’m now self-isolating and following government guidelines. It means that I’m now unable to plough ahead with any in person commitments for now, so I’ll be doing as many of my planned interviews/performances I can from my house. Apologies to anyone I’ve let down. Be safe everyone.”

One of those scheduled appearances that Sheeran was referring to is a stint on the popular comedy show "Saturday Night Live."

"SNL" still promoted that the singer will be on their next episode though when it announced the guests for its upcoming episode. The singer is the show’s musical guest on November 6th.

Before his announcement, Ed Sheeran had been making the rounds in support of his upcoming album. He performed with Coldplay at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire and at the recent Earthshot Prize awards ceremony.

Ed Sheeran is a supporter of vaccination. When he performed at the Late Late Show with James Corden early this year, he changed the lyrics to his song “Shape Of You” to include the line “Moderna of Pfizer will do / you’ll be good after jab number two / but wait two week for it to take effect / it doesn’t fit the song but it’s important.”
