The newly released track is part of her upcoming album that speaks of her life as a mother, her fraught childhood, and her lost marriage
“Adele’s songs make you think of that old lover you never had,” one social media post said during her past musical eras, and they truly do. It is hard not to be moved by her emotional lyrics with their melodic composition that definitely adds more cuts to what we are feeling. The same can be said with her latest single, “Easy On Me,” released at midnight on Oct. 15, 2021, UK time.
Heartfelt, melancholic, and lingering, “ Easy On Me” is part of her upcoming album, “30,” which is set to be released on Nov. 19, 2021. The track's premiere comes with a music video directed by Xavier Dolan, who also led the cinematic video for Adele’s “Hello.” True to the aesthetic of the 33-year-old singer, the music video is in moody black-and-white with visuals of an old house, her on the road, and music sheet flying everywhere, before coming to color as the music reaches its climax.
Adele’s latest album chronicles her life as a mother, her fraught childhood, and her lost marriage with ex-husband Simon Konecki. The latter is truly felt in the just-released track with lyrics like “And there is hope in these waters, but I can’t bring myself to swim when I am drowning” and “There ain’t no room for things to change when we are both so deeply stuck in our ways, you can’t deny how hard I have tried, I changed who I was to put you both first.”
Described as “self-destruction, then self-reflection, and then sort of self-redemption,” Adele’s “30” album is off to a good start with “Easy On Me” pulling her fans’ heartstrings again.
“I learned a lot of blistering home truths about myself along the way,” the 15-time Grammy winner wrote on Instagram. “I’ve shed many layers but also wrapped myself in new ones. Discovered genuinely useful and wholesome mentalities to lead with, and I feel like I've finally found my feeling again. I'd go as far as to say that I've never felt more peaceful in my life. And so, I'm ready to release this album.”
Here’s the full lyrics of “Easy On Me”:
There ain't no gold in this river
That I've been washing my hands in forever
I know there is hope in these waters
But I can't bring myself to swim
When I am drowning in the silence
Baby, let me in
Go easy on me, baby
I was still a child
Didn't get the chance to
Feel the world around me
I had no time to choose
What I chose to do
So go easy on me
There ain't room for things to change
When we are both so deeply stuck in our ways
You can't deny how hard I've tried
I changеd who I was to put you both first
But now I give up
Go easy on me, baby
I was still a child
Didn't gеt the chance to
Feel the world around me
Had no time to choose
What I chose to do
So go easy on me
I had good intentions
And the highest hopes
But I know right now
It probably doesn't even show
Go easy on me, baby
I was still a child
Didn't get the chance to
Feel the world around me
Had no time to choose
What I chose to do
So go easy on me
