Fifty-five persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan have been recommended for early release for good behavior, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.

In statement, BuCor said the IPPF’s Management, Screening and Evaluation (MSEC) has finished deliberations in the granting of good conduct time allowances (GCTA) to the 55 PDLs.

“Proper screening and evaluation of PDL prison record such as detention, court decisions and other relevant papers as bases in determining whether a PDL is qualified to avail himself of time allowances based on the revised GCTA Law, Republic Act No. 10592,” BuCor said.

“After the deliberation, a Resolution was made which will be forwarded to the National Headquarters for further review and recommendations to the Director General of the Bureau of Corrections,” it added.

It said the activity “brings a greater motivation and hope for possible early release to every deserving Person Deprived of Liberty of the BuCor with the careful and thorough evaluation of the officers under MSEC and with the guidance of Director General Gerald Q. Bantag.”

Thus, BuCor urged PDLs to enroll to the reformation activities and follow the rules being implemented by the BuCor officers to earn extra number of days in regular GCTA.

A total of 339 PDLs has been released by BuCor from its seven facilities nationwide as of last Aug. 31.
