For good behavior, 13 PDLs freed from Sablayan Prison in Mindoro

On account of their good conduct, 13 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released last Sept. 19 from the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro.

In a statement, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said the 13 freed PDLs had qualified under Republic Act No. 10592, the law on Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) which shortens the period of jail term for good behavior.

Their release was ordered in a memorandum issued by BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag.

“Through the collaboration of Inmate Documents and Processing Section (IDPS) and Overseer Section, the computation of GCTA was done expeditiously and with accuracy to benefit the qualified PDLs,” it said.

It said SPPF’s External Affairs Section (EAS) “provided assistance by coordinating with the receiving local government units for their travel requirements.”

It added that those released were provided with transportation allowance and underwent coronavirus disease (COVID-19) testing.

Last August, BuCor released 339 PDLs from its various facilities.

Aside by SPPF, BuCor’s six other facilities are the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City, Iwahig Penal and Prison Farm in Palawan, Leyte Regional Prison, Davao Prison and Penal Farm, and the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga.
