QC gov't inspects closed facilities with COVID-19 cases

The Quezon City government has started the inspection of closed and long-term facilities with surging cases of COVID-19.

This, after COVID-19 outbreaks hit orphanages, convents, and seminaries in Quezon City where hundreds tested positive for COVID-19 and at least nine individuals died.

According to the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (QCESU), they already visited 13 facilities such as orphanages, home care facilities, apostolate and rehabilitation centers.

According to QCESU chief Dr. Rolando Cruz, out of the 1,027 employees and clients in the said facilities, 594 individuals have yet to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Mayor Joy Belmonte has tasked the Department of the Building Official, Department of the City Architect, and City Engineering Department to issue guidelines to improve the infectious disease resiliency of these facilities through better ventilation, among others.

She said that it would help the establishment's administrator to retrofit their buildings to reduce the transmission of the virus.
