Scattered rain showers may persist over Visayas and some parts of Luzon and Mindanao due to the prevalence of a low pressure area (LPA) and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Sept. 19.
PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA at 125 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar at around 3 a.m.
Weather specialist Grace Castañeda said the LPA has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical depression but may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Visayas, Bicol Region, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and Quezon province.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have generally fair weather conditions but with possible isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
PAGASA advised the public to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms that are often associated with short-lived heavy rains may trigger flash floods or landslides.
The State weather bureau has also not issued any gale warning on Sunday morning as coastal water conditions will be slight to moderate.
Fisherfolk and those using small sea boats are safe to sail, it added.
