Power restored in half of total households affected by 'Jolina'


About 50 percent of the total households that were affected by power interruption due to severe tropical storm "Jolina" have already been restored, Department of Energy (DOE) Sec. Alfonso Cusi said on Thursday, Sept. 9.

Quoting data from the ground, Cusi said a total of 694,682 or 44.9 percent of the total 1,547,345 affected household connections have been restored as of Thursday.

These include households under the electric cooperatives (ECs) of BATELEC I, BATELEC II, SAMELCO I, and LEYECO III.

Cusi also ordered all energy public utilities and other industry players to ensure rapid restoration of lost power supply in affected areas, including the provinces of Batangas, Masbate, Romblon, Samar and Leyte. He also instructed the energy players to "be ready for the incoming typhoon 'Kiko'" that continues to intensify as it approaches Northern Luzon.

Meanwhile, as of 9 a.m. of Thursday, restoration activities are already ongoing in the following electric cooperatives (ECs):

  • QUEZELCO I - 66.62 percent
  • MARELCO - 10.38 percent
  • TIELCO - 99.36 percent
  • MASELCO - 13.36 percent
  • TISELCO - 15.79 percent
  • BILECO - 71.04 percent
  • NORSAMELCO - 94.77 percent
  • SAMELCO II - 60.89 percent
  • ESAMELCO - 48.79 percent
  • LEYECO V - 83.14 percent

The forecasted date of restoration of the following ECs are also as follow:

  • MARELCO - September 23
  • TIELCO - September 29
  • MASELCO - September 30
  • NORSAMELCO - September 9
  • SAMELCO I - September 10
  • SAMELCO II - September 8
