Magnitude 4.2 quake jolts Bicol -- Phivolcs

A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Bicol Region early Saturday morning, Sept. 4, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the epicenter of the earthquake was traced at 8 kilometers (km) southeast of Rapu-Rapu, Albay at around 5:23 a.m.

The earthquake was "moderately strong" at Intensity IV in Rapu-Rapu, Albay and Barcelona, Bulusan, Juban, Prieto Diaz, and Sorsogon City in Sorsogon.

It was "weak" at Intensity III in Legazpi City, Albay and Magallanes, Sorsogon, while it was slightly felt at Intensity II in Bulan and Irosin, Sorsogon and Santo Domingo, Albay.

Meanwhile, the tremor was "scarcely perceptible" at Intensity I in Daraga, Albay.

Phivolcs' instruments also measured the earthquake at Intensity IV in Sorsogon City, Intensity III in Legazpi City, and Intensity I in Pili, Camarines Sur.

Phivolcs said it does not expect damage to property or aftershocks due to this earthquake.
