Bus kills homeless man on EDSA

A 36-year-old homeless man was pinned to death by an oncoming bus along the EDSA Carousel in Quezon City Tuesday morning.

Juano Suarez, a “taong hamog” or a homeless person, was found dead underneath the leftmost tire at the back portion of Jell Trans Inc. bus around 8 a.m., the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) said.

He was trampled by the oncoming bus after he jumped into the center portion of the busway near Muñoz to avoid apprehension during a clearing operation conducted by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) personnel against squatters, the task force added.

The driver is already under police custody and will face reckless imprudence resulting in homicide charges.

Suarez was the second individual to be killed by an oncoming bus along EDSA Carousel in less than a month.

On July 8, a boy died after he was hit by a bus he stoned near MRT Santolan and Ortigas stations.

The boy was hit after the bus driver did not see him along his way after the bus’ mirror was broken due to the incident.
