The New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City released last Saturday, July 31, three persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who had either served their maximum jail sentence or had been granted parole.

In a statement, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said it has started collating figures on all the releases of qualified PDLs for the month of July from its various prison facilities nationwide.

For the month of June 2021, BuCor said 565 PDLs had been released either on parole, had served their prison terms, or had qualified under the good conduct time allowance (GCTA).

Released last June were 320 from the NBP; 107 from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF); 73 from the Corrections Institute for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City; two from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF); 14 from the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF); 31 from the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF); and 14 from the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP).

Those released PDLs underwent rapid antigen tests to ensure that they are safe from the coronavirus diseases (COVID-19) before going home to their families, BuCor said.
