(SOCIAL WEATHER STATIONS)

Forty-nine percent of Filipinos said their quality of life got worse in the last 12 months, based on the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey results released on Saturday, July 24.

The SWS survey conducted from June 23-26, 2021 revealed that 49 percent of adult Filipinos said that their quality-of-life got worse (termed by SWS as "losers"), 18 percent said it got better ("gainers"), and 33 percent said it was the same ("unchanged"), compared to a year ago.

The resulting net gainers' score is -31 (percentage of gainers minus percentage of losers), classified by SWS as "very low."

SWS pointed out that the June 2021 net gainer score is seven points up from the very low -38 in May 2021, which means there is a continuous "recovery from the catastrophic levels of -78 in May 2020, -72 in July 2020, and -76 in September 2020."

Compared to May 2021, SWS said that net gainers eased from "catastrophic" to "very low" in Metro Manila, up by 20 points from -50 to -30.

It also eased from "extremely low" to "very low" in Balance Luzon, up by 15 points from -42 to -27.

However, it worsened from "very low" to "extremely low" in the Visayas, down by two points from -38 to -40.

It also worsened from "low" to "very low" in Mindanao, down by six points from -25 to -31.

The grade "excellent" is applied to scores at +20 and above; "very high" to scores between +10 and +19; "high" to scores between +1 and +9; "fair" to scores between –9 and net-zero; "mediocre" to scores between –19 and –10; "low" to scores between –29 and –20; "very low" to scores between –39 and –30; "extremely low" to scores at –49 to –40; and "catastrophic" to scores –50 and below.

The SWS surveyed 1,200 adults nationwide: 300 each in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

The survey has sampling error margins of ±3 percent for national percentages and ±6 percent for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
