The average number of daily new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Metro Manila has increased to 851 cases during the July 16-22 period, OCTA Research said in its latest monitoring report released on Friday, July 23.

This is a 39 percent increase from the 613 cases per day during the July 9-15 period.

OCTA also observed a continuous increase in Metro Manila's COVID-19 reproduction number.

As of Friday, its reproduction number was 1.21, which means that there is an increasing COVID-19 infection in Metro Manila.

OCTA pointed out that cases in Manila City, Caloocan City, and Valenzuela City increased by more than 40 percent.

Makati City had a "high" average daily attack rate (ADAR) of greater than 10 cases per 100,000 population.

While the average number of daily new cases in Metro Manila continued to increase, OCTA noted that the positivity rate remained at 6 percent.

Likewise, hospital bed utilization at 37 percent and ICU or intensive care unit utilization at 44 percent also remain low as of its latest monitoring.

In Central Visayas, OCTA said that Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Lapu-Lapu City had significant increases in new cases.

"These three LGUs (local government units) also had ADAR greater than 10 per 100,000 and very high reproduction number," OCTA pointed out but noted that hospital bed and ICU occupancy remained "low" in these LGUs.

In Ilocos Region, the research group said that Laoag City is having a "major surge" with a "high" growth rate of 82 percent, "very high" infection rate of 2.14, and a "very high" ADAR of 59.70 cases per 100,000 population.
