'Very high' COVID infections observed in Mariveles, Lapu-Lapu, Cebu -- OCTA Research

Independent research group OCTA on Saturday, July 17, noted "very high" coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections in Mariveles in Bataan, Lapu-Lapu City, and Cebu City during the past week.

The rate of infection was highest in Mariveles at 1.85 percent, followed by Lapu-Lapu City at 1.72 percent, and Cebu City at 1.42 percent, during the July 10-16 monitoring period.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Mariveles increased to 57 from 23 in the previous week.

Lapu-Lapu City's COVID-19 cases also increased from 29 to 49, as well as in Cebu City from 72 to 98 cases.

The incidence rate or the average daily attack rate in Mariveles was also considered "very high" at 40.66 cases per 100,000 population.

OCTA, in its monitoring report, still listed Davao City with the highest number of average daily COVID-19 cases nationwide at 224 during the July 10-16 period.

The city also logged the second-highest intensive care unit (ICU) utilization at 95 percent, following Iloilo City with an ICU utilization rate of 97 percent.

OCTA said that Cagayan de Oro City and Tagum City also had "very high" ICU utilization rates, both at 86 percent.

Meanwhile, OCTA said the whole country remains under "moderate" risk for COVID-19 but there is a continuous decline in the number of average daily cases at 5,011 during the July 10-16 period, from 5,321 cases on July 3-9.
