Twelve persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released last Sunday, June 27, from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said that 11 of the PDLs released had been granted parole while one had served his prison term.
Last June 28, a PDL who had served her jail term was released from the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Mindanao, Bucor said.
Fifteen PDLs were released from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) last June 25. Eight of them were freed after the computations of their good conduct time allowance (GCTA), three were granted parole and four were returnees or those who had been released on GCTA but were ordered re-jailed for re-computation of their GCTAs.
The CIW in Mandaluyong City had freed three PDLs last June 23 and another 12 inmates last June 24.
Last June 21, a PDL was release from the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Mindoro Occidental.
BuCor, in a statement, said the continued decongestion of its prison facilities is being achieved with the reforms introduced by BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag.
“Now, with the intervention of new prison reforms, better assessment and evaluation leads to conclusive identification of PDLs due for release,” it said.
