Davao City's hospital ICU utilization now at 95% -- OCTA Research

The number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Davao City continued to increase as it averaged 252 cases per day during the June 13-19 period, OCTA Research said in its report on Sunday, June 20.

OCTA said that Davao City still leads the list of local government units outside Metro Manila with the most number of new infections.

Its current number is higher than the 177 daily average cases during OCTA's June 6-12 monitoring period.

The research group said that Davao City had a one-week growth rate of 42 percent and a reproduction number of 1.47 during the June 11-17 period.

While the city's hospital bed utilization rate (HBUR) was considered "moderate" at 67 percent, its intensive care unit utilization (ICUR) was "critical" at 95 percent.

Davao City had a one-week positivity rate of 13.88 percent.

Aside from Davao City, Valencia City (Bukidnon), Cebu City (Cebu), and Polomolok (South Cotabato) had significant one-week growth rates at 80 percent, 45 percent, and 32 percent, respectively.

OCTA's report also noted that Iloilo City (Iloilo), Koronadal City (South Cotabato), and Bacoor City (Cavite) have all reached 100 percent ICU utilization.

Other areas that have reached high to critical ICU utilization are Baguio City (77 percent), General Santos City (86 percent), Tagum City at 85 percent, San Pablo City, Laguna at 86 percent, Tuguegarao City at 98 percent, Cotabato City at 94, Tagbilaran City at 81 percent, and Naga City at 85 percent.

Meanwhile, new COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila continued to decline with 750 new cases, lower than the 842 cases during the previous week.

Metro Manila's hospital bed occupancy is at 35 percent, while ICU utilization is at 44 percent.
