A private resort in Malabon City has been flagged by the local government for accommodating guests despite the temporary ban on the operations of swimming pools and similar facilities amid the surge of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections.
The local government warned erring owners of the facilities on Monday on the prevailing ban on resort operations.
It added that Mayor Lenlen Oreta “is keeping a close watch” on them.
On May 2, a private resort in Barangay Maysilo was ordered closed for accommodating more than 20 people reportedly for a baptismal event. The facility, according to the local government, is owned by a certain Dr. Ma. Theresa Cruz.
The facility was also cited for supposedly operating without a business permit. Those caught were issued violation receipts for mass gathering.
“It is a bit of a sacrifice for us all, but we still ban mass gatherings during any occasion while the virus infestation is still at its peak,” Oreta said in a statement.
As of Monday, May 3, Malabon has 501 active COVID-19 cases and 12,308 total confirmed cases.
