Hillary Duff to star in 'How I Met Your Mother' spin-off

The popular mid-aughts comedy show will get a spin-off.

“How I Met Your Mother” will get a sequel titled “How I Met Your Father” and will have Hillary Duff as lead star. The show will run as a 10-episode series on streaming platform Hulu.

Duff will play the main character, the one Ted Mosby (played by actor Josh Radnor) talked about a lot to his kids on the popular show.

“The series begins when Sophie (Duff) tells her son the story of how she met his father. (The story) catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options,” Hulu said in a statement.

Duff meanwhile is excited in extending the story of the beloved comedy show. “I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie,” the actress said in a statement.

Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, the executive producers and the original writers of the “HIMYM,” will return at the helm.

“Kids, I’m going to tell you an incredible story: It’s the story of how two writers got lucky enough to make their dream TV show for nine seasons and now get to pass the torch to an inspired new creative team with their own incredible story to tell, the story of “How I Met Your Father,” the two said in a statement.

The aforementioned creative team they were referring to are Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger of “This Is Us.” Aptaker and Berger will serve as showrunners and will have final say on story and creative matters regarding “How I Met Your Father.”

“We are honored by their passion and vision, and look forward to helping them tell a legendary new story. (Thanks to all the HIMYM fans out there who waited for it)” added Thomas and Bays.
